Having the right survival camping gear can literally mean the difference between life and death when you find yourself in a sticky situation far from civilization. It definitely pays to be prepared. Before you head out on your next adventure, stock up on all of the following supplies:

Pocket Knife – Invest in a high-quality pocket knife that can be used for a variety of different outdoor tasks. Ideally, the blade should be partially serrated. This will allow you to use the knife as a saw to cut through tough items such as rope, wood, or bone.

Flashlight – Being able to see at night can be invaluable when you are in the wild or in unfamiliar territory. Invest in a high-quality flashlight that is not only compact and lightweight but also provides a great deal of light. Some survival flashlights even have the ability to be used as an emergency beacon, making it easier for search and rescue teams to find you if something goes wrong.

Fire Starter – Being able to start a fire easily can make a world of difference when you are outdoors. A magnesium flint is a great choice since it will work whether it is wet or dry and is extremely compact to carry.

Metal Water Bottle – Having a way to carry water with you is essential. Metal water bottles are a great choice since you can boil water in them to make it safe for drinking.

Compass – Knowing what direction you are going can help keep you from getting lost when you are outdoors. If you are surrounded by trees, everything can start to look the same. Having a compass will let you know if you are headed in the right direction.

First Aid Kit – No matter how careful you are, accidents often happen when you are in outdoor survival situations. A small first aid kit can be invaluable. Make sure that it contains supplies for treating cuts and scrapes, sprains, insect bites, and other types of injuries that you may endure. Also, be sure that it includes liquids or ointments for disinfecting wounds. Getting a bad infection in the wild can be deadly.

Dry Bag – If you plan on coming in contact with any type of water, a dry bag can be extremely helpful. For instance, if you have to cross a river, being able to put your clothing in the bag to keep it dry can help ensure that you don’t wind up with hypothermia because of wet clothing.

Sturdy Backpack – The right backpack can help make carrying everything much easier. Make sure that the pack you choose is comfortable to wear, large enough to carry all of your items, and water resistant.

Having the right survival camping gear can literally mean the difference between life and death when you are in the wilderness. Including all of the items on this list with your camping supplies can help ensure that your adventure goes as smoothly as possible.
